Lettuce Ladies Pay Your Power Bill

Written by PETA | July 10, 2009

If you’re trying to reduce your carbon footprint, changing your light bulbs is a good start—but PETA’s Lettuce Ladies are on a mission to let people know that there’s a better (and more delicious) way to go green. Our environmental crusaders’ first stop was the Consumers Energy building in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they gave passersby free veggie burgers and—for some instant gratification to show the environmental impact of adopting a vegetarian diet—coupons for $10 off their energy bills.

According to Environmental Defense, if every American replaced meat with vegetarian foods just once per week, the carbon dioxide savings would be equivalent to taking more than half a million cars off U.S. roads. So, how about cooking up a vegetarian meal for dinner tonight?

Igor Brien is not using flawed logic. Most of the world’s crops are used to feed animals that will ultimately be used for food. If we diverted the land use for human food instead we would have enough to feed humans. The production of food using animals is completely inefficient. It takes up to 17 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef.

They are legitimate coupons that my campaign manager purchased herself from Consumers Energy that morning! No worries

  • Brien Comerford says:

If humans stopped wrongfully killing animals for food we could rightfully feed every person on the planet with the grains and soy that used to be fed to mistreated and traumatized “food animals.”

  • Mel says:

I hope those were legitimate coupons PETA or there will be a lot of people very upset with you.
