Fur-Free First Ladies: Michelle Obama Echoes Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s PETA Pledge

Written by PETA | June 11, 2009

Yesterday, we broke the news that France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, had written to PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews to assure him that although she wore fur back in her modeling days, she now refuses to wear even the smallest bits of fur.

Now, America’s first lady, the fabulously fashionable Michelle Obama, has also declared via her press secretary that she, too, is fur-free. Here’s the official statement: “Mrs. Obama does not wear fur.”

Talk about some high-class first ladies!

Good for you ! By one of the 613 laws we must even feed our animals first as we are held responsible for their well being . I salute you may Gd bless you.

It is wonderful that these two first ladies have declared they will not wear fur. By the way the fact that the President and First Lady may have eaten foie gras doesn’t dilute the importance of her renouncing fur. They are probably not vegetarians. But she is setting an important example with the fur.

I was a fur and leather lover. I just decided to watch some videos and do research on fur farms. I am in tears my chest hurts and I have a knot in my throat. I had no idea that human can be so cruel to animals. I mean heartless and evil. I refuse to wear any leatherfurs wool etc…. As for my own belonging I do not want them anymore. I wish I could sell them and donate the money to Peta. But I feel if I do that those bastards win. Or I should throw everything away but those animals I cannot get the images out of my mind.

Thank you Michelle. You’re a wonderful woman wife mother and First Lady. I also love your veggie garden. My own veggie garden is beautiful this year and I’ll bet yours is too. Is there a website where we could all follow along with its progress? It is very helpful to encourage people to grow organic veggies in those big green lawns!

I am very happy to see that Michelle Obama doesn’t wear real fur. Now if only she can get her husband to get Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to overturn his ridiculous keeping of George Bush’s policy to deny protection for wolves in the lower 48 states. Too bad vicious Sarah Palin doesn’t have any sympathy for the wolves she allows to be killed in Alaska! Salazar should also get protection for Polar Bears and other wildlife!
