First Daughter Wants to Help Tigers

Written by PETA | April 23, 2010
Obama Family

This just in: First daughter Malia Obama regularly reminds her dad about the plight of tigers, a species on the verge of extinction yet still exploited for human entertainment. It happens so frequently that first lady Michelle Obama told a group of kids visiting the White House that the family talks about tigers at least once a week and said, “I think, the Obama household, we’re trying to save the tigers.”

Let’s hope that the Obamas make a stand for tigers right here at home by speaking out against the use of these magnificent animals in circuses. The first family would be appalled to know that their favorite animal is being whipped, crammed into cages in which they can barely move, and forced to jump through hoops and hop on their hind legs under the constant threat of punishment. Word to Malia: “Ringling hurts tigers!”

PLEASE HELP TONY THE TRUCKSTOP TIGER!!! He needs to go to Big Cat Rescue. Truckstops are for trucks…Not Tigers!!!

I actually sent an email to President Obama today asking him to step in and help release ‘Tony’ the tiger from the cruel hands on Michael Sandlin in Grosse Tete Louisiana. I am disgusted that that anyone is allowed to keep a tiger in captivity. What the hell? A tiger? In captivity? They belong in forests where there’s swamps water to swim and lot of gras to hide and hunt. I just don’t understand why humans take other animals and keep them in captivity. This is extremely cruel and wrong. Common sense tells you that! I hope that Tony will finally be able to get the hell out of there and go to the Big Cat Sanctuary. It’s not total freedom but a nicer place for him to live. He’s been at the truckstop for ten damn years!

While I don’t agree with the President on most issues I am glad to hear that his daughter sounds very caring and I hope will take up this issue further. Good for her.

The abuse of tigers at tiger farms in China is deplorable. Please urge Obamas to remember the tigers languishing in tiger farms in China. Do these magnificent animals deserve this type of treatment.

I am glad the Obamas talk about tigers but how about the President reversing his Sec. of the Interior Ken Salazar’s stupid decision to keep a Bush law that takes away the Endangered Species Act status from wolves! I am still waiting for Obama to reverse this decision. Maybe Obama can also deal with issues that have to do with private citizens owning exotic species like big cats and apes.

It’s good to hear that the Obama family cares about this kind of thing! They should learn more about Peta and then they can really help to save the tigers and other animals!

  • P. Marsh says:

I agree that Tigers nor Elephants should be used in the circus or placed in zoo’s. We can watch them on tv. Do we need to satisfy our wanting more and more by seeing them at these places?
