Victory! Insurance Association Drops Live Animal Displays After Hearing From PETA

Another win ensured: After learning from PETA about the suffering and exploitation behind live-animal displays, the Florida Association of Insurance Agents confirmed it will never use wild animals at any of its future association events! That’s one fewer client for greedy animal suppliers who treat wild animals like party props—renting them out, forcing them to perform, and often confining them to barren cages.

PETA is sending the association vegan chocolates in thanks for its compassionate decision.

How We Secured Another Win Against Seedy Animal Exhibitors

PETA first sprang into action after an attendee at the Florida Association of Insurance Agents’ Orlando convention raised the alarm about a giraffe on display. We immediately contacted the group and laid out the reality behind such spectacles: Exhibitors and suppliers often train animals with abusive methods to force them to comply. They confine animals to inadequate conditions that can cause a wide range of health issues and even premature death.

In addition, the chaos of loud noises, crowds, and flashing cameras terrifies and distresses animals—especially prey animals like giraffes, who are easily startled. And when exhibitors aren’t parading animals around at events, they often cram them into tiny enclosures, force them to endure long, miserable trips from one gig to the next, and deny them the species-specific enrichment they desperately need.

Wild animal displays aren’t just cruel—they put everyone in danger. Every year, humans who attend events or interact with captive wild animals are injured, some leading to hospitalizations and even death.

Exploitation Is Not Entertainment—Take Action!

Giraffes are sensitive, social animals who form lifelong bonds with their fellow herd members. In their natural homes, they spend their days playing, foraging, and roaming the sweeping savannahs—sometimes covering up to 1,200 miles in a single day. Giraffes—and all wild animals—deserve to live freely, not be carted around and displayed like props.

YOU can help end this cruelty: Never support live-animal displays, avoid roadside zoos and other attractions that exploit animals, and speak up whenever you can. Every choice you make helps chip away at the cruel industries that condemn animals to a lifetime of misery—all so humans can gawk at them.
