‘Free the Chicken’: PETA’s Traveling Truck Is Giving Away Vegan Chicken Nationwide
Cluckle up, because PETA is hitting the road for chickens. This summer, our new “Free the Chicken” truck tour is rolling across the country with thousands of FREE samples of vegan chicken from Just Food Company. Our bird-defender on wheels is driving home a simple message: Every chicken is someone. And once you meet them, you won’t want to eat them.

Who Are Chickens?
Chickens are curious, social individuals who form complex relationships and have unique personalities. Mother hens teach calls to their chicks before they even hatch, and chickens use different vocalizations to communicate with one another. They experience joy, fear, pain, and comfort.
Like the dogs and cats who share our homes, chickens value their lives and want to be safe and free from harm.
Yet chickens are arguably the most abused animals on the planet.
What Going Vegan Spares Chickens From
From the moment chicks hatch, the meat and egg industries treat them as commodities. Because male chicks can’t lay eggs, hatcheries kill them when they’re just a day old, often by grinding them up alive or gassing them. Workers also slice or burn off the sensitive tips of female chicks’ beaks—a painful mutilation done to prevent extremely stressed birds from pecking each other.
On egg farms, hens waste away in filth. “Cage-free” operations pack thousands of birds into massive sheds, where they can’t root in the soil, bask in the sun, or even breathe fresh air. And when they’re no longer deemed “profitable” by the egg industry, workers cram them into trucks and haul them off to slaughterhouses.

In the United States alone, the meat industry kills approximately 9 billion chickens for their flesh each year, while the egg industry exploits 305 million hens.
Choose Compassion With Every Bite
Every meal is an opportunity to help chickens, cows, pigs, and fish. And thanks to companies like Just Food, it’s easier than ever to enjoy all the flavors and dishes you love without causing anyone to suffer.
That’s why PETA’s “Free the Chicken” truck is bringing free samples directly to communities across the country. Following the success of PETA’s wildly popular iScream truck, which has delighted crowds with vegan ice cream while encouraging people to leave mother cows’ milk off their cones, the “Free the Chicken” truck is taking the message on the road for birds. Check back soon to see when the tour will be coming your way!
Come grab a free sample from our truck, learn more about the remarkable animals who don’t want to be anyone’s meal, and discover how simple it is to make compassionate choices.
