Breaking! ASPCA, Humane World for Animals Drop Endorsement of Meat Labeling Scam

Breaking news! One of the meat industry’s biggest humane-washing scams just lost the support of three national animal welfare organizations after an intense PETA campaign. Global Animal Partnership (GAP) slaps deceptive “animal welfare certified” labels on animal flesh sold at Whole Foods and other grocers, and now, the ASPCA, Humane World for Animals (formerly Humane Society of the United States), and Compassion in World Farming have quietly fled its board of directors.

How Does the Global Animal Partnership Betray Animals?

GAP deceives well-meaning consumers into buying meat and other animal-derived products from what they often have no idea are factory farms, including those where PETA has documentation and reports of animals being kicked, slammed, and even being sexually abused.

PETA has repeatedly exposed cruelty to animals at GAP-certified facilities:

  • At Farmer Focus, whistleblowers reported that chickens had bruised, broken, and dislocated wings from being slammed into cages for transport to the company’s slaughterhouse. Farmer Focus was and is still GAP-certified.
  • At Plainville Farms, a PETA investigator documented workers kicking, beating, and violently throwing turkeys about, and leaving sick and injured birds to suffer without veterinary care. Plainville was GAP-certified at the time.
  • At Sweet Stem Farm, a PETA investigator documented pigs who were crammed into severely crowded sheds on concrete floors and had painful, bloody rectal prolapses as large as an orange that were left untreated. Sweet Stem Farm was GAP-certified at the time.

Humane World for Animals, the ASPCA, and CIWF sat on the board of directors for this humane-washing scam for more than a decade, even though other groups, including PETA and Farm Forward, cut ties years ago.

What You Can Do to Stand Up Against ‘Humane-Washing’ Schemes

Every animal is someone, and they all deserve better than the deceptive labels “humane” and “welfare” certifiers slap on the packaging of their broken bodies. Misleading “humane” and “welfare” labels mean nothing to the suffering animals exploited for their flesh. The best way to help animals is to go vegan today.
