Gap Inc. Shareholders Find Out How Fur Coats Are Made

Bearing props that look like bloody skinned animals, PETA supporters descended on Gap Inc. headquarters today as shareholders arrived for the company’s annual meeting. While protesters outside called out Gap subsidiary INTERMIX for refusing to join the dozens of retailers that have chosen to drop fur from their lines, a PETA representative inside the meeting spoke to the executives, board of directors, and shareholders to urge INTERMIX to stop selling fur.

For every coat or piece of trim made from real fur, rabbits, foxes, minks, and many other animals—including possibly dogs and cats—were electrocuted, bludgeoned, strangled, or even skinned alive. In China—the world’s leading exporter of fur—undercover investigations have revealed that rabbits are hung upside down, screaming and kicking, and forced to watch those ahead of them die violently before their own throats are cut. PETA encourages all caring people to leave real fur on the animals.

Dozens of retailers have already banned fur from their collections, including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Inditex, L Brands, H&M, and Victoria’s Secret.
