Experimenters Perform Frankenstein-Like ‘Head Transplants’ on Animals

Experimenters Sergio Canavero, Xiaoping Ren, and C-Yoon Kim have allegedly been conducting crude and cruel “head transplant” experiments on mice and monkeys. The experimenters cut the animals’ heads off and suture them back onto their own bodies or onto the bodies of others. The bodies remain fully or partially paralyzed, and the animals survive for only a short period of time.

Scientist claums to have performed

The callous cohorts recently claimed that they are seeking to publish findings from some of their grotesque “head transplant” experiments—in which the experimenters sever animals’ spinal cord or their spinal cord and their entire head—in scientific journals, including Surgery and CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics. As part of our effort to get these experiments stopped, PETA is asking the journals to reject these unethical and scientifically unsound articles. In our correspondence, we point out:

“In addition to the serious ethical concerns that these procedures raise—which have been noted by some of the world’s leading ethicists—the experiments are unlikely ever to help human beings. . . . These cruel and crude head transplant experiments will put your journal in the spotlight for the wrong reason. Instead of promoting experiments on animals that are unlikely ever to produce benefits for humans, I encourage you to halt these manuscripts and redirect the resources elsewhere.”

PETA is also urging universities that have approved these crude experiments to stop the sham science. We will keep you updated on our efforts to stop these experiments.
