With cutting-edge science racing toward a future free from animal testing, PETA Science Consortium International e.V. teamed up with Colgate-Palmolive Company for a powerful move. Together, they sent six Indian scientists to the United States for top-tier non-animal (in vitro) training this week, ensuring these experts stay at the forefront of innovation in non-animal test methods.

Participants represented various corners of toxicology, from the government to private companies and contract research organizations. No matter the specialty, the four-day training course, run by a globally recognized non-animal testing facility in the US, is designed to help scientists better understand how to conduct and apply the latest non-animal methods.

Attendees explored how to test substances for skin and eye irritation and corrosion, skin sensitization, phototoxicity, and respiratory toxicity without using animals. Thanks to this hands-on experience, these innovative courses lay the groundwork for saving rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, and other animals from a lifetime inside laboratories.

Since 2019, the Science Consortium has assisted more than 40 scientists in attending this training course —in addition to sponsoring various other training courses around the world.

As regulating agencies worldwide accept more non-animal methods, toxicology professionals are preparing to understand how to use and interpret data from them, making events and collaborations like these more vital than ever.
