WWE Star, San Diego Native Brie Garcia to Push SeaWorld to Release Dolphins to Sanctuary

Fresh off her WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, professional wrestler, mother, and San Diego native Brie Garcia (aka Brie Bella) is joining PETA in the fight against SeaWorld. Garcia stars in a stunning new campaign that spotlights the suffering orcas, dolphins, and other marine mammals endure at SeaWorld parks—and she’ll drive the message home on Tuesday, when she submits the following question at SeaWorld’s virtual annual meeting and demands that the abusement park stop breeding dolphins and instead, release them to seaside sanctuaries where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace.

My name is Brie Garcia, and I have a question on behalf of PETA.

As a mother and a San Diego native, I was deeply saddened to learn that SeaWorld continues to breed dolphins for lives spent entirely in cramped concrete tanks that can never meet their needs.

To produce generations of suffering animals, female dolphins are taken from the water and sometimes drugged so they can’t fight back while SeaWorld staff manually impregnate them. Some animals have been through this repeatedly, only to lose their babies, many of whom die young or are taken from them. I want my children to grow up with compassion and empathy for animals, in a world where animals are respected as individuals, not attractions to be used for profit.

My question is this: When will SeaWorld stop breeding dolphins and send them to seaside sanctuaries, where they can thrive in a more natural environment?

In nature, dolphins choose their own mates, jump and dive at will, and can swim up to 60 miles a day—but at SeaWorld, they’re confined to tiny barren tanks and denied everything that’s natural and important to them.

Garcia is part of a long list of celebrities, including Noah Cyrus, Lala Kent, Nikki Glaser, Joan Jett, P!nk, Bella Thorne, and Steve Aoki, who have spoken out against cruel marine parks.

PETA encourages everyone to join Garcia in urging SeaWorld to stop breeding dolphins and whales and send them to seaside sanctuaries.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment or abuse in any other way”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a dolphin is a dog is a boy.
