Just ahead of his 95th birthday (March 22), Hollywood legend and longtime PETA friend William Shatner is starring in a new video boldly urging people to change their ways to protect animals—as he says, “before it’s too late.” In the spot—filmed at Shatner’s home—the actor and activist reports:
“I just want to say that PETA is terrific. The animals that took millions of years, in some cases, billions of years, to evolve and be part of the environment, they’re dying because of man,” says Shatner. “It’s tragic. This beautiful planet that is so gorgeous and so interconnected, we’re killing it, and we have a chance to stop that.”

Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint. PETA offers a free vegan starter kit to help people make the switch.
Shatner belongs to a growing list of celebrities—including Paul McCartney, Natalie Portman, Michael Keaton, Alicia Silverstone, Thandiwe Newton, Joaquin Phoenix, Woody Harrelson, Tom Hardy, and Peter Dinklage—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
PETA—whose motto reads, “Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
