Doolittle, Mo.

It’s not every day that a vegan firefighter is tasked with putting out a blaze involving 40,000 pounds of beef, but that was probationary Doolittle firefighter Jenna Ulrich’s first call to action—so PETA is sending Ulrich and her colleagues a case of delicious vegan steaks to share. In a letter sent today to Doolittle Rural Fire Protection Chief Brandon Williams, PETA congratulates the department on a job well done and shares how just like firefighters, choosing thick-cut filets from vegan meat maestros Juicy Marbles also saves lives.

“Jenna Ulrich has a fire in her belly for saving lives, both by putting out flames and by leaving animals off her plate,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA hopes that the whole department will enjoy these tasty vegan steaks that leave animals in peace rather than pieces.”

Cows have friends, hold grudges against other cows, and mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other. In the meat industry, they’re crammed into filthy sheds and feedlots, endure routine mutilations including tail docking, castration, and dehorning with no painkillers, and are slaughtered at just a fraction of their natural lifespan.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is filled with tips to help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
