Wayne Brady Brings ‘Dogs = Family’ Message to NYC During ‘La Cage Aux Folles’ Run

As Wayne Brady opens in New York City Center’s Encores! production of La Cage aux Folles—the iconic musical about chosen family and unconditional love—the comedian is spreading that same message across Manhattan taxi tops and in a new video for PETA that points out that dogs are family, so treat them that way.

In the video, Brady introduces part of his “pack”—two of his four adopted senior dogs, Rumi and McQueen—sharing, “They talk to me! Oh yeah—if you listen, and I mean really, really listen to what they’re saying, you can understand.” And Brady uses his voice-acting talents to narrate what both dogs are saying during a long, leisurely walk through the neighborhood, including, “Oh man, it’d be awful to hold it for eight hours,” and, “Look, I’m still sassy. I have so much energy. You can’t keep a body like this cooped up all day!”

Other tips from the Let’s Make a Deal host and his dogs include making sure dogs are microchipped, wearing a visible ID tag and a comfortable harness, which “leaves our necks free to admire squirrels,” says Rumi. The trio also encourages everyone to adopt, not shop—as McQueen says, “If I could have one wish, it would be that other homeless dogs are as lucky as we are.”

The taxi top messages will run throughout New York City’s theater district until the end of June.
