Diners at Katsumori Asian Fusion may lose their appetites, thanks to a sky-high appeal next to the restaurant showing a fish asking the inconvenient question, “Was Your Sushi Someone?” PETA’s enormous aquatic animal will give viewers food for thought about how fish are individuals who suffer when they’re impaled through the mouth or left to suffocate slowly on the decks of massive fishing trawlers.
“Fish feel pain, value their lives, and don’t want to die for a hand roll,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages everyone to make the compassionate choice and opt for vegan sushi, which delivers all the flavor and satisfaction without the suffering and death.”
Fish communicate and develop relationships with one another, can use tools, and understand simple addition and subtraction. They have long memories, sing to each other, share knowledge, and some can recognize themselves in a mirror—yet billions are abused and killed for food each year, more than all other animals combined.
With vegan sushi readily available in grocery stores and local restaurants such as PLANTA, there’s no better time to go vegan with the help of PETA’s free vegan starter kit.
PETA’s billboard faces west and is located next to Katsumori Asian Fusion and viewable for people traveling northeast on Old Okeechobee Road.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out thatEvery Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
