After hearing from PETA—and more than 60,000 of its members and supporters—that small animals caught on glue traps can suffer for days, Dollarama, the largest dollar store chain in Canada, has confirmed that it has banned the sale of cruel glue traps at all its stores. In thanks, PETA is sending the company delicious mouse-shaped vegan chocolates.

“Glue traps subject small animals to a terrifying and agonizing death as they try to free themselves from the body-gripping glue,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA thanks Dollarama for their kind decision and urges everyone to reject these vile devices and speak out against their use.”
Rats are empathic, family-oriented individuals who will put themselves in harm’s way to save someone else. Male mice woo their mates with love songs, and baby rats giggle when they’re tickled. Rats, mice, and other small animals—including birds, lizards, and squirrels—who get stuck in the adhesive that covers glue traps struggle desperately to escape, sometimes chewing off their own limbs before succumbing to starvation, dehydration, asphyxiation, or blood loss. Glue traps fail as a long-term solution because they neglect to address the source of the problem: As long as food remains accessible, more animals will move in to take the place of those who have been killed.
Dollarama joins hundreds of other companies—including CVS, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart Canada—that have banned glue traps after hearing from PETA.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out thatEvery Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
