PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the location and safe recovery of a dog who was seen on video being abused by a man later arrested and reportedly identified as Isaac Booker Justham. On August 2, video footage captured a man beating a dog—who appears to be a black Labrador retriever—with a heavy rope, hanging the animal from a fire extinguisher, and repeatedly kicking them. The attack allegedly took place in the elevator of an apartment building in the 500 block of N.E. Holladay Street. Justham was arrested on August 17 and charged with three felony counts of first-degree aggravated animal abuse. Police questioned the suspect, who wouldn’t provide information about the dog’s location.

“This dog is surely frightened and traumatized and may have sustained serious injuries,” says PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA asks anyone with information to come forward immediately so that this dog can get the care he or she urgently needs.”

Anyone with information about the dog’s whereabouts should contact Detective Matthew Brown at [email protected] and reference case number 24-803427.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
