Following reports that the lone star tick—whose bite can cause humans to develop an allergic reaction to meat and dairy—is spreading further northward and westward, PETA is helping everyone take a bite out of delicious vegan cuisine by bringing the Lone Star Tick Cookbook back to the PETA Shop. The recipes are tailor-made for even the staunchest carnivores—including Philly “cheesesteaks,” slow-cooker Texas chili, and vegan sausage, biscuit, and gravy sandwiches—and every one of the delicious dishes is tick bite allergy-proof.

“Getting bitten may suck, but there’s no need to be ticked off by a meat allergy with so many tasty vegan recipes in PETA’s cookbook,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is encouraging everyone to latch onto these tasty flesh-free bites and go vegan.”

PETA points out that pigs are soothed by music, and cows mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other. Yet the meat industry, they’re crammed into filthy sheds or kept on crowded feedlots and subjected to tail docking, castration, and other mutilations with no pain relief. Eventually, they’re forced onto transport trucks for a terrifying journey to a slaughterhouse, where workers slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious. In addition to causing these animals immense suffering, the meat, egg, and dairy industries are also major producers of the greenhouse gases fueling the climate catastrophe.

Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year and lowers their food-related carbon footprint by up to 73%—making it the single most effective way to reduce one’s negative impact on the planet. PETA’s free vegan starter kit and Lone Star Tick Cookbook can help anyone looking to make the switch.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
