Ahead of Pi Day (March 14), PETA has calculated the best vegan Key lime pies from around the Sunshine State with its first-ever Kind Lime Pie awards—and Sarasota’s own Green Zebra Cafe has nabbed a spot on the list. The vegan-friendly eatery’s velvety smooth Raw Key Lime Pie Cheesecake perfectly balances bright, tangy Key lime and lemon with the natural sweetness of agave, dates, and tropical coconut, all made irresistibly creamy with a rich blend of cashews, almonds, and walnuts.

“Green Zebra Cafe has earned its stripes with its decadent twist on Florida’s iconic state pie, delivering luscious flavor without a crumb of cruelty to chickens or cows,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “Every winner on PETA’s list is serving up tantalizing vegan tarts perfect for satiating sweet tooths on Pi Day and all year round.”
PETA notes that in addition to being a treat for the taste buds, vegan desserts are kind to mother cows, whose calves are taken away from them on dairy farms, and to mother hens, who are caged and used as egg-producing machines until their bodies give out and they’re sent to slaughter. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help those looking to make the switch.
Green Zebra Cafe will receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights. Other winners on PETA’s list include Christopher’s Kitchen in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, Stephanie’s Vegan Bakery and Café in Fort Lauderdale, Moondog Café & Bakery in Key West, and Valhalla Bakery in Orlando and Saint Petersburg.
Green Zebra Cafe is located at 1377 Main St., Sarasota, and is open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. An additional location at 476 John Ringling Blvd. in Sarasota is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
