“SeaWorld Kills.” That’s the can’t-miss message that will greet the marine park’s “Shamu and Crew” mascots when they marshal the Fiesta Flambeau Parade on Saturday, as PETA supporters will assemble along the parade route with 9-foot-tall illuminated signs to shine a light on how more than 40 orcas and over 500 other dolphins and whales have died at SeaWorld parks.
“While a costumed Shamu parties along parade routes, the real orcas trapped in SeaWorld’s tiny, barren tanks are languishing in misery—just like the hundreds of animals who have already died there,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on SeaWorld to release these long-suffering animals to seaside sanctuaries, and until then, urges everyone to stay away.”
Where: 516 Brooklyn Ave., San Antonio (Near the intersection of Ave. B and Brooklyn Ave.)
When: Saturday, April 25, 7 p.m.

Why: In nature, dolphins swim up to 60 miles a day, and orcas may swim as far as 150 miles in a day—but at SeaWorld, they’re denied everything that’s natural and important to them and housed in tanks so cramped and shallow that they can do little more than float listlessly or swim in endless circles while fending off attacks from their stressed tankmates.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
