I choose FAUX because I’m REAL as hell.” That’s the message Real Housewives of Atlanta star Pinky Cole is sharing in her new editorial-style fashion campaign for PETA. The Slutty Vegan founder approached PETA about the concept after joining the reality franchise, in which many of her co-stars can be seen flaunting animal fur and skins. Now, Cole is proving that real style doesn’t come from a fox in a cage, a cow in shackles, or a crocodile being stabbed for a bag—it comes from knowing you can look fabulous, without any animal paying the price.

Repping vegan fur, vegan shearling, and more in the accompanying video, Cole says, “Once you learn that shearling comes from lambs and fur hats come from rabbits, you start to see fashion differently. So me? I like my glam high and my impact low: vegan.”

Just like the cats we share our home with, minks purr when they’re happy, and crocodiles are doting mothers who diligently protect their eggs from predators. PETA notes that the billions of animals killed for their skins every year are often confined to cramped cages or pens, subjected to mutilation, and even skinned alive. PETA entities’ investigations have revealed that workers in the fashion industry hack at crocodiles’ necks and shove metal rods down their spines, bash snakes with hammers, and gas minks and foxes before skinning them.

“There are vegan luxury options for everything … you do not need to compromise,” says Cole. “I can show up in faux fur and still be that girl, and I didn’t have to kill an animal to do it.”

Cole joins a growing list of celebrities—including Taraji P. Henson, Penelope Cruz, Jhené Aiko, Olivia Munn, and Eva Mendes—who have teamed up with PETA to condemn the cruel animal skins industry. Cole previously collaborated with PETA in Atlanta to launch the group’s food justice campaign, which calls on the government to redirect subsidies for the meat, egg, and dairy industries to incentives for grocers in low-income areas to stock fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy, humane foods.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a fox is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
