Following '60 Minutes' Exposé of Pork Producers, PETA Will Hit BBQ Joint

Des Moines, Iowa – In the wake of 60 Minutes‘ investigation revealing that pork producers ban health inspectors from farms that have spawned human outbreaks of salmonella, PETA members in pig costumes will urge BBQ diners to cut the pork—or risk the runs. The prancing “pigs” will brandish syringes and signs reading, “Pork Producers = Drug Fiends,” while volunteers hand diners leaflets showing the miserable conditions that pigs are forced to endure on industrial farms.

“Pigs are kept in such cramped and filthy conditions on factory farms that pork producers have to dope them up,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Those drugs are passed on to meat-eaters, who can develop a resistance to antibiotics, which is one reason so many people are turning vegan.”
