On Tuesday, in time for the holiday shopping season, PETA supporters will gather outside the Allbirds store in Boulder to call out the rampant abuse of sheep in wool production by unveiling its “E(n)d Shearin’” sheep statue that features artwork of New Yorker cartoonist Harry Bliss. Allbirds sells ZQ-certified wool, which PETA Asia has documented coming from farms where sheep were kicked, beaten, punched, whipped, pinned down, thrown, and left with gaping wounds during shearing, among other cruel acts. The statue will be on display through December 16.

“This statue reminds us all that sheep are thinking, feeling individuals who love their families and don’t want to be shorn bloody for a pair of shoes,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Allbirds to switch to humane vegan wools, and urges everyone to shop elsewhere until they do.”
“E(n)d Shearin’” debuted last summer at the City Hall Annex in San Angelo, Texas—once known as the “Wool Capital of the World.”.
Where: Pearl Street Mall, near Allbirds, 1218 Pearl St. in Boulder
When: Tuesday, November 18, 12 p.m.
Why: PETA entities’ exposés of more than 150 wool-industry operations on four continents have exposed extreme and rampant abuse of sheep, who have complex emotions, grow depressed if isolated from their flock, and can even detect anxiety in another sheep by observing their face.
