With the holiday travel season in full swing, PETA supporters will descend on the Millennium Hotel Durham on Tuesday with “dead dogs” and suitcases sporting a spoof “Millhellium” logo to decry the company’s sponsorship of the Iditarod dog race, in which more than 150 dogs have died.

When:    Tuesday, November 23, 12 noon

Where:    Millennium Hotel Durham, 2800 Campus Walk Ave. (near Morreene Road), Durham

“This much-despised race forces dogs to cross nearly 1,000 miles of ice and wind in just two weeks, running some animals to their deaths,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Millennium Hotels and Resorts to check out of the Iditarod’s cruelty to dogs by ending this sponsorship.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
