Washington – Below, please find a statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in response to reports that thousands of live chicks shipped to farmers through the U.S. Postal Service have arrived dead in recent weeks following rapid cuts to mail delivery operations:

Vulnerable chicks go from shell to hell when they’re sent through the mail on long, terrifying journeys without food or water. PETA has two words for anyone disturbed by the thought of a package filled with bird bodies: Go vegan.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, visit PETA.org.
