PETA Statement, re Reported Killing of Jericho the Lion

Cecil is dead, and now—if reports are true—his brother Jericho is dead, too. If Jericho has been killed, then the cubs he guarded after Cecil’s killing are likely to perish. Whether or not Jericho was killed, there’s no doubt that trophy hunters killed lions in Africa yesterday, and regardless of which lions were gunned down, this is a prime example of the devastation and real-life pain and destruction caused by trophy hunters. It is the business of trophy hunting that must now die. Lions’ heads, like the heads of rhinos and leopards and Cape buffalo, belong on the animals’ shoulders, not on a wall.
