Del Mar, Calif. – Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s misleading statement about deaths during the racing season:

Del Mar’s claim of zero horse deaths is false. While we are relieved by the reduction in horse fatalities during races, California records show that two horses experienced “sudden death” during training. Corpses were on the track, and we have no explanation for it. Del Mar must be completely honest. Half-truths that hide bodies must not be tolerated.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment or abuse in any other way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
