Below, please find a statement from PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk on the passing of labor leader and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta:

Dolores Huerta was an advocate who never accepted oppression and injustice as inevitable, and she carried that conviction from the picket line to her own plate by refusing to eat animals. Huerta was a trailblazer whose empathy knew no bounds, and PETA and PETA Latino encourage everyone to honor her legacy by challenging exploitation in all its forms, because a kinder world for all is within our reach: ¡Sí, se puede!

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kitsfor people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
