Orlando, Fla. – Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to SeaWorld’s announcement today that it has appointed Sergio D. Rivera as CEO and a member of its Board of Directors:

PETA has some words of advice for SeaWorld’s new CEO: The company has cycled through three CEOs and eliminated more than 1,100 positions since the release of Blackfish, so if he wants to stick around, he’ll need to make bold moves to end the dolphin shows and implement a plan to move the orcas and other animals to seaside sanctuaries.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and is welcoming Mr. Rivera to his new role by sending him a complimentary “Animal Liberation” sweatshirt with PETA’s logo.
