Norfolk, Va. – Below, please find a statement from PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange regarding the death of Mary Willard:

Mary Willard was a great friend to PETA and to animals for many years. With her humor and huge heart, she was a frequent guest at PETA’s events and was as involved in the PETA campaigns of her husband, Fred—including a popular animal birth control video and a quirky video in which he learned to speak “dog” in honor of National Pet Month—as he was. She was a warm, kind, generous person who will be missed by all of us here at PETA.

PETA’s motto reads, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.”  For more information, please visit PETA.org.

 Ingrid E. Newkirk

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
