Below, please find a statement from PETA President Tracy Reiman in response to Eleven Madison Park’s announcement that it is adding meat back to its menu, with Chef Daniel Humm claiming that he was inspired to make the switch after watching a shepherd kill a goat (an experience he called “very moving …”):

Anyone can see the fear in an animal’s eyes when she is held down and her throat is slit. Watching the blood pour from a struggling, terrified animal would make most kind people go vegan, so that it had the opposite effect on Chef Humm is troubling. Every animal is someone, and they will do all they can to avoid the knife. PETA calls on people to avoid Eleven Madison Park.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free vegan starter kits for those looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
