Los Angeles –

Legendary musician and writer Nick Cave has collaborated with PETA on a limited-edition merchandise collection. Featuring Cave’s original illustration of a dog and a rat alongside PETA’s “Every Animal Is Someone” slogan, the exclusive line of T-shirts, tote bags, and tapestries—available now through the PETA Shop—encourages people to let love in for animals and look beyond arbitrary differences to recognize the similarities in all living beings. All proceeds from sales of the line will go toward PETA’s vital work.

“Every animal deserves to be treated with kindness, compassion and respect,” Cave says, “Every animal is someone.”

PETA points out that, much like the dogs we share our homes with, rats are empathetic individuals who return as much affection as is given to them. PETA’s Every Animal Is Someone campaign highlights animals’ unique personalities, amazing abilities, and a remarkable capacity for emotions—from cows, who form lasting friendships and mourn losses, to chickens, who dream and worry about the future—and encourages everyone to see other animals not as beings who exist for human use, but as individuals with rich lives of their own.

“Nick Cave has spent decades exploring the feelings of love, grief, and joy that connect us as humans, and this collaboration invites everyone to extend that empathy to other animals,” says PETA Director of Communications Lauren Thomasson. “His striking artwork captures the spirit of PETA’s motto that Every Animal Is Someone and gives fans a meaningful way to let love in for all beings, even the smallest among us.”

Cave, who previously shared his song “Breathless” with PETA for use in a moving campaign featuring Iggy Pop, is part of a long list of celebrities—including Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Joan Jett, and Chrissie Hynde—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
