Houston – PETA protesters will be on the scene at the UniverSoul Circus tonight with signs proclaiming, “Don’t Lie to Your Children: This Place Hurts Animals,” and will give away free animal-friendly coloring books to kids.

When:    Today, 6 p.m.

Where:    Sam Houston Race Park, 7575 N. Sam Houston Pkwy. W., Houston

UniverSoul has featured animal exhibitors such as big-cat exhibitor Mitchel Kalmanson, who has been caught holding big cats in foul-smelling, maggot-infested cages for weeks at a time. Video footage from a UniverSoul performance last year showed a worker punching a camel who was being used for rides. PETA is calling on the circus to end its animal acts and exclusively feature talented human performers.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
