PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for abandoning a dog with a large abscess or tumor on his ribs in a trash-filled dumpster on Wolverine Drive near Interstate 94 and Platt Road. The dog—a white pit bull mix with a black marking on his face who is approximately 10 years old—was discovered on March 25 by a good Samaritan who called Ann Arbor police. Because the dog—who is currently receiving medical treatment—could not stand on his own, officers safely lifted him out of the dumpster using a mat with multiple straps.
The suspect has not been identified and may have other animals in their possession—and animal abusers are often repeat offenders who represent a threat to the entire community.
Anyone with information related to this case should contact the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6920, email the tip line at [email protected], or submit a Silent Witness tip at aapd.a2gov.org/SilentWitness.

“Dogs depend on humans to keep them safe, yet someone callously discarded this suffering dog in a dumpster and left him to die surrounded by garbage,” says PETA Sr. Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information to come forward immediately before the individual responsible hurts someone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
