As Secretary Kennedy arrives at the Indiana State Library to hold a conference with Indiana Governor Mike Braun to help launch a “Make Indiana Healthy Again” initiative, they will be greeted by a massive PETA “dinosaur” with an important message: Get the National Institutes of Health (NIH) out of the Stone Age by ending wasteful, ineffective experiments on animals.

NIH squanders $23 billion each year, nearly half its annual budget, on experiments on animals. This is even though 90 percent of basic research, most of which involves animals, fails to lead to effective treatments for humans, and 95 percent of new drugs that test safe and effective in animals later fail in humans. PETA scientists have developed a strategy to phase out experiments on animals and implement modern, human-relevant research methods.

“NIH dumps billions of taxpayer dollars down the drain every year on cruel and pointless experiments on animals who hold back real progress,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA urges Secretary Kennedy to slash NIH’s budget and make America a true leader in medical research.”
