For National Ice Cream Month, a “cow” mascot will join PETA to churn out free nondairy desserts for passersby in Richmond, as a reminder that delicious vegan treats are as sweet to cows as they are to us. It’s estimated that half of Americans buy dairy-free milk and that vegan ice creams are growing 26.5% year over year.

When:    Saturday, July 24, 3 p.m.

Where:    The intersection of S. Sheppard and W. Cary streets, Richmond

“A mother cow produces milk for her calf, just as human mothers produce milk for their babies,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s giveaway is a fun and refreshing way to honor cows, who don’t deserve to be exploited for anyone’s treat.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
