PETA Celebrates New NIH Office Focused on Human-Relevant Non-Animal Science

Please see the following statement from Dr. Amy Clippinger, managing director of PETA’s Regulatory Toxicology Department. PETA scientists applaud the establishment of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH’s) Office of Research Innovation, Validation, and Application (ORIVA), a concrete step towards modernizing regulatory toxicity testing and biomedical research. The new office, prominently housed within the NIH’s Office of the Director, will coordinate efforts to develop and validate non-animal methods, and provide funding and training on non-animal testing—efforts that PETA scientists have supported and advanced over many years.

The creation of the Office of Research Innovation, Validation, and Application signals that the NIH is serious about fulfilling its mission to foster innovative research and protect human health—goals best achieved by prioritizing cutting-edge non-animal science. We are confident ORIVA will drive science and innovation forward.
