Ottawa – Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to Parliament’s passage today of legislation banning whale and dolphin captivity nationwide:

After protesting cetacean captivity for decades and rallying our supporters to show a wave of support for this landmark bill, PETA is popping the champagne corks today as Canada makes history. We look forward to a day when confining sensitive, complex marine mammals to tiny tanks is outlawed in every country around the world.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. More information about keeping marine mammals in captivity is available on PETA’s website.
