To prove that vegan cheese is creaming the competition, a PETA supporter dressed as a boxer will square off at the Rocky Steps on Thursday to hand out thousands of delicious dairy-free cheese snacks. The animal defender’s exhibition in Philly—which will also include stops at 30th Street Station, Rittenhouse Square Farmers Market, and Reading Terminal Market—is part of a nationwide fromage free-for-all that will deliver 50,000 pieces of vegan cheese to hungry passersby across the country.
“Mouthwatering vegan cheese goes the distance on flavor with none of the cruelty of its dairy-based opponent,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is encouraging everyone to be an undisputed champion for animals, the planet, and their own health by throwing in the towel on dairy.”
Where: Outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy, Philadelphia
When: Thursday, September 4, 12 p.m.
Why: Cows have friends and mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other, yet in the dairy industry, female cows are forcibly impregnated and have their beloved calves stolen from them so the milk meant to nourish their babies can be sold to humans. Newborn males are slaughtered for veal, while female calves endure the same fate as their mothers until their bodies wear out and they’re sent to slaughter.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is filled with tips to help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
