PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for shooting a dog in the head and leaving him suffering, immobile but alive, inside a trash bag dumped on the side of Henderson Camp Road in Grand Bay. The dog—a grey pit bull named Chance by his rescuers—was found by local residents on March 1. X-rays showed a bullet had fractured his skull and was lodged in his brain, and he was also suffering from heartworms, skin infections, and puncture wounds. Chance had been shot at least ten days before he was found, according to veterinarians. Due to the severity of his injuries, Chance was euthanized on March 4. With the addition of a $2,500 reward offered by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the total reward in this case is now up to $7,500.
The suspect has not been identified and may have other animals in their possession—and animal abusers are often repeat offenders who represent a threat to the entire community.
Anyone with information related to this case should contact the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office at 251-574-8633.

“Someone out there shot this horribly neglected dog in the head, discarded him like trash, and left him to languish in agony for days before his suffering was finally ended,” says PETA Sr. Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information to come forward immediately before the individual responsible hurts or kills someone else.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
