OHSU Passes Resolution to Reduce Primate Center, Focus on Non-Animal Research: PETA Statement

Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding the resolution on the future of the Oregon National Primate Research Center just passed by the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Board of Directors:

PETA welcomes the board’s movement toward the long-awaited closure of the primate center, but hopes that the finish line will soon be reached, considering the prolonged outcry over overblown research claims, negligence-caused monkey deaths, the appalling waste of public funds, and the false statement that monkey experiments can validate non-animal methods. OHSU must fully embrace state-of-the-art, animal-free science by abandoning any plan to allow even a small number of monkey experiments, halting all breeding, and setting firm deadlines for retiring the monkeys. Close to a quarter of a million Oregonians have declared that this hellhole must close, and they expect OHSU to stop fighting to keep a justifiably sinking ship afloat.
