Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President of Laboratory Investigations Kathy Guillermo regarding the Community Review Board’s vote to reject Oregon Health and Science University’s (OHSU) purchase of Legacy Health:
OHSU has clearly lost the trust of the public, and nothing exemplifies that more than the university’s insistence on tormenting monkeys in pointless experiments. Nearly 10,000 Oregonians told the Community Review Board that the primate center must close and OHSU, instead of listening, defended the horrific studies that lead to the deaths of 900 monkeys every year. If OHSU wants to be trusted with health care, it must first confront the unethical practices in its own backyard.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
