With the new year just around the corner, an au naturel Alicia Silverstone is making a bold statement on a new PETA billboard that proclaims, “Keep 2019 Kind. Leave Wool Behind.”

The billboard is located on Seventh Avenue near the intersection with W. 48th Street in Times Square and will be up for four weeks.

In a video interview with PETA, Silverstone reveals the naked truth about wool: “[I]t’s just so fast, the shearing process,” she says. “[The sheep are] cut. They’re harmed. They get very seriously wounded, and there’s no care for them when they’re wounded. It’s just, ‘Move on to the next.’”

That’s why she’s teaming up with PETA to ring in a wool-free 2019. “[W]hy not make that leap?” she asks. “Say, ‘I’m never going to buy wool again.’”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—has released 11 exposés of 99 sheep operations on four continents that have all revealed that sheep are systemically abused and mutilated in the wool industry. Impatient workers have been caught punching, kicking, and stomping on sheep, some of whom die from the abuse. When the animals are no longer profitable to the wool industry, they’re slaughtered.

Silverstone has been a PETA supporter since her Clueless days and is part of a long list of celebrities—including Elisabetta Canalis, Penélope Cruz, Jenna Dewan, Taraji P. Henson, Eva Mendes, Olivia Munn, and P!nk—who’ve bared it all to help the group promote kinder wardrobe choices.
