Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo on NIH’s announcement that it is prioritizing human-relevant research and moving away from experiments on animals:

Champagne corks are popping at PETA thanks to NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya’s landmark decision that will spare animals, help humans, and bring science into the modern era. This long-overdue reset for U.S. research will open doors to cutting-edge methods that have languished due to a lack of funding. We look forward to ending the caging and tormenting of animals in experiments, which failed to deliver cures for human disease. PETA’s many scientists have been showing the way for years through our Research Modernization Now, a strategy for replacing animals with more effective research methods, and we stand ready to help make this transition.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
