Move over, four-leaf clovers—this St. Patrick’s Day, Kansas City revelers will get a lucky surprise from a shamrock-green, larger-than-life cow, who is reminding paradegoers that going vegan is the luckiest choice anyone can make for animals and the planet. PETA’s towering bovine will pop up twice along Broadway Boulevard, sharing the message that cows should be kissed, not killed, to help combat the climate crisis.

“Cows are gentle, social animals who form deep bonds with their herd, and they’d choose affection over the terror of the slaughterhouse any day,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA urges everyone to make a lucky choice for cows and the planet by going vegan this St. Patrick’s Day and beyond and offers free vegan starter kits to help everyone make the switch.”

In the meat industry, cows are crammed into filthy sheds and feedlots, subjected to painful mutilations like castration and dehorning without pain relief, and slaughtered long before reaching their natural lifespan. Research shows that going vegan can shrink a person’s food‑related carbon footprint by up to 73%, making it one of the biggest ways to reduce one’s negative impact on the planet—while sparing nearly 200 animals every year.

PETA’s billboards are located along Broadway Boulevard; one near 39th Street and the other near Westport Road. The colorful appeals will greet revelers near the parade route and are near various meat-serving venues that are hosting St. Patrick’s Day events.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
