Please see the following statement from PETA Vice President Dr. Alka Chandna regarding today’s announcement that “The Dirty Business of Monkey Laundering,” a powerful documentary by Bloomberg Investigates featuring expertise and commentary from PETA Senior Science Advisor Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel, has won a prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Documentary:
This richly deserved Emmy win proves that compelling storytelling and fearless investigative journalism can still expose what powerful institutions would rather keep hidden. PETA has been on the frontlines of this fight for years and we’re proud to offer our expertise to Bloomberg Investigates in revealing the truth: that the global primate trade is steeped in corruption, cruelty and disease. At the heart of this trade is Charles River Laboratories—one of the largest importers and sellers of monkeys for experimentation in the U.S.—a company whose practices have raised serious questions about oversight, transparency, and biosecurity. The Trump administration has already taken important steps—questioning the scientific value of primate experiments and investing in human-relevant research methods. The next step is clear: shut down primate imports, dismantle the dangerous supply chain that enables this trade, and commit fully to a modern research model that protects public health, national security, and scientific integrity.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
