Ahead of the holidays, PETA is laying bare the truth about the ugly wool industry with a delightfully naughty Christmas sweater that features Santa stripping down in a festive twist on PETA’s iconic “I’d Rather Go Naked” campaign—which was launched over 30 years ago with The Go-Go’s and now has been brought up to date on fashion issues with Ho Ho Hos. The garish garment is available in the PETA Shop while supplies last.

“Even Old Saint Knickerless knows the naked truth about the wool industry, where PETA has documented frightened sheep being pummeled and gashed for sweaters,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “A lamb is a jolly jumper—a sweater is not. But no one was beaten or killed for PETA’s jolly jumper, which encourages everyone to stay on the nice list by sticking to soft, cozy vegan fabrics.”

Sheep grow depressed if isolated from their flock and can read other sheep’s emotions on their faces, just like humans do. PETA entities’ exposés of more than 150 wool-industry operations on four continents have exposed extreme and rampant abuse of sheep, including workers kicking, punching, stomping, and throwing sheep and leaving them with gaping wounds after shearing.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
