Norfolk, Va. – In honor of National Pigeon Appreciation Day tomorrow, PETA is rebranding our feathered friends as Sky Puppies in the hope that this will entice people to give them the respect they’re due—because, after all, they poop in public, appreciate food scraps, and recognize people who are nice to them, so what’s the difference, really?

“Just like puppies, pigeons have lived alongside humans for thousands of years,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “This ‘Sky Puppy Appreciation Day,’ PETA is encouraging everyone to appreciate their difficult lives and offer them some respect.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org, listen to The PETA Podcast, or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
