Shoppers at Miami’s Design District will be met with a startling sight on Thursday as a PETA Latino supporter dressed as a huge, 10-foot snake will slither up to Louis Vuitton and coil herself in front of its doors to shed light on the suffering of snakes and other animals whose skin is stolen for bags, watchbands, and more.
“No one needs to wear snakeskin besides snakes,” says PETA Latino Director of Communications Alicia Aguayo. “PETA Latino is calling on Louis Vuitton to stop selling hacked up animals in the name of fashion and let them live in peace.”
Where: Outside Louis Vuitton, 3902 N.E. 1st Ave., Miami
When: Thursday, April 24, 12 noon

Why: Snake mothers are fiercely protective of their eggs, and some species care for their babies for weeks after they hatch and even “babysit” other mothers’ hatchlings. Many snakes are social, living in large communities where they make friends and form cliques. A PETA Asia investigation into slaughterhouses in Indonesia that have supplied LVMH—Louis Vuitton’s parent company—shows snakes being inflated with water, bashed with hammers, and cut with razors while they were likely still conscious.
PETA Latino—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
