Following the news that baby product behemoth Frida will mark the launch of its new breast pump by releasing human breastmilk-flavored ice cream this year PETA sent a letter today to CEO Chelsea Hirschhorn, urging the company to do right by moms of all species by making the ice cream vegan and keeping the stolen milk of a mother cow off the ingredients list. To make the deal especially titillating, PETA is offering to send the company a supply of “Breast Is Best” stickers to put on the packaging.

In the letter, PETA points out that cows—like all mothers—produce milk only to feed their babies. Yet in the dairy industry, cows are repeatedly forcibly impregnated, and their calves are taken away from them within a day of birth so that the milk meant to nourish them can be stolen and sold to humans. Cow’s milk is also chock full of cholesterol and saturated fat—which is fine for calves, who gain around 500 pounds in a single year, but udderly disastrous for human health.

“Compassionate confection connoisseurs would be pumped to know that Frida’s breastmilk-flavored ice cream doesn’t come at the expense of mother cows and their calves,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is encouraging Frida to make the breast choice for curious consumers and cows alike by making its intriguing ice cream vegan.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out thatEvery Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.

Dear Ms. Hirschhorn,

I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and our millions of members and supporters worldwide about your upcoming species-appropriate human breastmilk-flavored ice cream. I have a request—ensure that the ingredients used for the ice cream are not harmful to babies—calves that is. Please let me explain.

We’re sure Frida is always working to stay abreast of all the trends, and as you know, vegan eating is more popular than ever, and sales of vegan milks have skyrocketed. The hugely problematic dairy industry exploits motherhood by forced manual insemination of cows and stealing babies from mothers.

PETA agrees that breast is best—when it comes to your own species. Frida’s mission is to help parents navigate parenthood, but creating this ice cream with stolen cow’s breastmilk prevents cow mothers from nurturing their own young. Cows produce milk only when they are pregnant or nursing to nourish their babies, but on dairy farms, calves are torn from their mothers shortly after birth, and the milk meant for them is sold to humans instead.

Human breast milk is the healthiest option for infants, and adults can enjoy the taste of dairy products without all the saturated animal fat and cholesterol by choosing milks, cheeses, and yes, ice creams made from soy, coconut, peas, almonds, cashews, oats, and more.

With all the attention that this pro–breast milk ice cream flavor is receiving, will Frida ensure that it is supporting and honoring all mothers by making it vegan? To sweeten the deal, let’s make it tit for tat- if you make the breastmilk flavored ice cream vegan, we’d love to send you a supply of our “Breast Is Best” stickers to put on the packaging.

I look forward to your prompt reply.

Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman

Executive Vice President
