On Saturday, PETA supporters are teaming up with local vegan restaurant Yaqui Zen Kitchen to give away 100 free vegan hot dogs—freshly grilled on site!—at a Pokémon Go event in Sunset Park, sharing the message: “Ash Would Never Eat A Lechonk—Why Should You?”
“Pokémon battles are just a game, but cows and pigs raised in the meat industry experience real fear, pain, and suffering before they’re violently killed for someone’s hot dog,” says PETA Vegan Campaign Project Manager Amber Canavan. “PETA urges Pokémon trainers and fans to evolve and level up their compassion by going vegan.”
Where: By the playground near Sunset Park South (2601 Sunset Road, Las Vegas)
Parking at 3V7M+GH, Paradise, NV 89120
When: Saturday, July 12, 2 p.m.

Why: Cows mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other, and pigs have complex social lives that rival those of primates. In the meat industry, cows and pigs are often confined to cramped, filthy conditions until they’re transported to slaughterhouses where workers shoot them in the head with a captive-bolt gun. Cows are then hung up by one leg, and have their throats slit, and pigs are dumped into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while both are still conscious and able to feel pain.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
